ABOUT THE PROJECT

For the first time, we are honored to perform on the grand stage of the main hall at KKL Lucerne, and even more so to open the festival with our performance!

The concert program includes classical masterpieces such as E. Elgar’s Cello Concerto and R. Schumann’s Symphony No. 1. Additionally, there will be a world premiere of a special work initiated by Oksana Lyniv specifically for this festival.

“Requiem for a Poet” is a composition inspired by the tragic news of the death of Ukrainian poet Maksym Kryvtsov. In early January 2024, he was killed in the Russian-Ukrainian War. The first copy of his poetry collection “Poems from the Trench” was delivered to him directly at the front lines. After receiving the book, the poet started a game where his Facebook followers would send him page and line numbers, and he would respond with the appropriate excerpt from a poem. This game was short-lived as he was soon killed during a russian shelling. His cat, who was always by his side, died with him. Maksym was only 33 years old. This symbolic “conversation” became the foundation for the Requiem’s libretto.

Our goal is to bring the works of artists from the “Second Ukrainian Renaissance” to life because as long as their art lives on stage, their memory does not die. The world must learn about their stories.
