ABOUT THE PROJECT

Young Euro Classic is the world’s largest festival for youth orchestras, with participation by invitation only. Each day for two weeks in August, a youth orchestra from a different country performs on the stage of the Konzerthaus Berlin, showcasing their high level of artistry and the musical traditions of their homeland.

The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (YSOU) successfully debuted at the festival in 2019. When the full-scale war in Ukraine began, the festival organizers urgently invited YSOU to perform once again.

The concert was dedicated to Ukrainian works. The program featured the symphonic ballad “Grazhyna” by Borys Lyatoshynsky, a late romantic composer considered the father of independent Ukrainian orchestral music. We also performed a chamber cantata for voice and orchestra by Oleh Kiva, celebrating the eternal beauty of the world. Vitaliy Hubarenko’s chamber symphony for violin captivated with its dramatic expressiveness. The melodic Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” by Antonín Dvořák brought an optimistic conclusion to the program, reflecting hope for the future despite the composer’s longing for his Czech homeland and his quest for identity in new global realities.

Our performance was one of four festival concerts selected for live broadcast by the international cultural channel ARTE, allowing us to present the Ukrainian musical tradition to the world.
