ABOUT THE PROJECT

Let there be light! – What a wonderful benefit concert it was, bringing together the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the Sibelius Academy Orchestra! We are incredibly grateful for the chance to rehearse and perform on the same stage with such talented students under the direction of Dalia Stasevska with wonderful soloist Elina Vähälä.

President of Finland, Alexandr Stubb, along with the First Lady of Finland Suzanne Innes-Stubb, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland, Olga Dibrova, the British Ambassador to Finland, Theresa Bubbear, and the Estonian Ambassador to Finland, Sven Sakkov, also joined the full audience. After the concert, the President honored us with a long conversation about Ukrainian perspective in the world, asked a lot of questions about our orchestra and shared his vision about importance of culture and arts in the social development of every country. It was very enriching conversation for all of us!

Many thanks to Emilie Gardberg, Dean of the Sibelius Academy, Kaarlo Hildén, Rector of the University of the Arts Helsinki, Emilia Mäki, Executive Director of Musikkitalo, and their teams for their invaluable support of the initiative!

A heartfelt thank you to Dalia Stasevska for her remarkable idea and bringing to life this vibrant charity project.

The proceeds of the concert – almost 41,000 euro – were raised from ticket sales and donations. The raised funds will go directly to benefit Ukrainian music education as part of the AEC (The European Association of Conservatoires) Supports Ukraine campaign.

The concert drew a record audience for the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, selling out the 1,700-seat concert hall. Nearly 1,800 viewers also followed the live broadcast of the concert online.
