Our performance in Kirchheimbolanden was planned long before the war, but the COVID pandemic disrupted our tour.

The concert in 2022 was particularly special for us as it took place in a historic venue — the town church where Mozart played. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart visited Kirchheimbolanden around his 22nd birthday at the invitation of Princess Caroline of Nassau-Weilburg on January 23, 1778. In his letter dated February 4, 1778, Mozart wrote about his experience in Kirchheimbolanden, mentioning that he performed music a total of twelve times at the palace and once at St. Paul’s Church on the famous Stumm organ of 1745. Since 1943, it has been officially called the “Mozart Organ”, which saved it from destruction during the war.

To highlight the connections between the Mozart family and Ukrainian tradition, we performed Mozart’s famous Symphony No. 38 “Prague”. The program also featured Ukrainian works — soloist Andrii Murza performed Vitaliy Hubarenko’s Chamber Symphony No. 1. Additionally, we premiered the orchestral work “Symphonietta” by Zoltan Almashi. The composer wrote it in 2021 specifically for the festival in Kirchheimbolanden.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Lydia Thorn Wickert for the invitation and warm reception!
