More than 200 young musicians from across the country submitted their applications to audition for participation in the first project of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (YSOU). The jury included music experts from Ukraine and Germany, including conductor and project initiator Oksana Lyniv and the director of the Federal Youth Orchestra of Germany, Sönke Lenz.

The selected participants formed the inaugural lineup of the newly established YSOU, with their first concert taking place in 2017 at the LvivMozArt festival on the stage of the Lviv National Opera.

The auditions were preceded by an open press conference attended by the project team led by Oksana Lyniv and the director of the Beethovenfest Bonn festival, Thomas Scheider, as well as representatives from the cultural department of the Lviv City Council and prominent cultural figures from Lviv. The establishment of the orchestra with the support of German partners was presented as a nationally significant project with long-term prospects deserving support from the state and the public.

All events were documented by the project’s information partner, the international German channel Deutsche Welle, represented by editor and journalist Anastasiya Butsko. Deutsche Welle’s coverage helped to spread the information about the orchestra’s establishment in the international arena.
